Benefits of Lemon Water

lemon water2I love me a good cup of lemon water in the morning.  Add a little stevia and make it a lemonade.  As the colder months are approaching, make it a hot lemon water!  There are so many benefits to drinking lemon water.  If you are gonna hop on a bandwagon, hop on this one!

Check out the benefits of lemon water !!!

Benefits of Lemon Water

1. Gives your immune system a boost.

Vitamin C is like our immune system’s jumper cables, and lemon juice is full of it. The level of vitamin C in your system is one of the first things to plummet when you’re stressed, which is why experts recommended popping extra vitamin C during especially stressful days.

2. Excellent source of potassium.

As already mentioned, lemons are high in potassium, which is good for heart health, as well as brain and nerve function.

3. Aids digestion.

Lemon juice not only encourages healthy digestion by loosening toxins in your digestive tract, it helps to relieve symptoms of indigestion such as heartburn, burping, and bloating.

4. Cleanses your system.

It helps flush out the toxins in your body by enhancing enzyme function, stimulating your liver.

5. Freshens your breath.

It also helps relieve toothaches and gingivitis (say wha?). Because the citric acid can erode tooth enamel, either hold off on brushing your teeth after drinking lemon water or brush your teeth before drinking it.

6. Keeps your skin blemish-free.

The antioxidants in lemon juice help to not only decrease blemishes, but wrinkles too! It can also be applied to scars and age spots to reduce their appearance, and because it’s detoxifying your blood, it will maintain your skin’s radiance.

7. Helps you lose weight.

Lemons contain pectin fiber, which assists in fighting hunger cravings.

8. Reduces inflammation.

If you drink lemon water on a regular basis, it will decrease the acidity in your body, which is where disease states occur. It removes uric acid in your joints, which is one of the main causes of inflammation.

9. Gives you an energy boost.

Lemon juice provides your body with energy when it enters your digestive tract, and it also helps reduce anxiety and depression. (Even the scent of lemons has a calming effect on your nervous system!)

10. Helps to cut out caffeine.

I didn’t believe this until I tried it, but replacing my morning coffee with a cup of hot lemon water has really done wonders! I feel refreshed, and no longer have to deal with that pesky afternoon crash. Plus, my nerves are thankful.

11. Helps fight viral infections.

Warm lemon water is the most effective way to diminish viral infections and their subsequent sore throats. Plus, with the lemon juice also boosting your immune system, you’ll simultaneously fight off the infection completely.

but first, coffee.

but first… coffee.

I am no coffee addict, but I like myself a good coffee every once in a while.  Not gonna lie, I like the coffee that tastes less like actual coffee; add some caramel and some vanilla, that’s my kind of coffee.

Today I am writing about coffee in honor of National Coffee Day!

So here are some benefits of drinking coffee:

Coffee can make you feel happier.

A study done by the National Institute of Health found that those who drink four or more cups of coffee were about 10 percent less likely to be depressed than those who had never touched the java. And apparently it’s not because of the “caffeine high” — Coke can also give you a caffeine high, but it’s linked to depression. Study author, Honglei Chen, MD, PhD, told that the proposed reason coffee makes you feel good is because of those trusty antioxidants. – Huffington Post.

Coffee can make you a better athlete.

The New York Times reports, “Scientists and many athletes have known for years, of course, that a cup of coffee before a workout jolts athletic performance, especially in endurance sports like distance running and cycling.” Caffeine increases the number of fatty acids in the bloodstream, which allows athletes’ muscles to absorb and burn those fats for fuel, therefore saving the body’s small reserves of carbohydrates for later on in the exercise. – Huffington Post

Drinking coffee could help keep your brain healthier for longer.

Researchers from the University of South Florida and the University of Miami found that people older than 65 who had higher blood levels of caffeine developed Alzheimer’s disease two to four years later than others with lower caffeine. Dr. Chuanhai Cao, a neuroscientist at the USF, and co-author of the study, said, “We are not saying that moderate coffee consumption will completely protect people from Alzheimer’s disease. However, we firmly believe that moderate coffee consumption can appreciably reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s or delay its onset.” – Huffington Post

This one really speaks to me because my grandma died of Alzheimer’s, and watching that disease take over her was heartbreaking.  She got it when I was fairly young, so most of the memories of my grandma consist of visiting her in a home, but her not knowing who I was or communicating with us at all.  I think the worst part was watching my Grandpa care for her and love her for years, when some days she didn’t even know who he was, and didn’t say a word; one can only wonder what was going through her head.  I can only hope they one day find a cure.

Coffee may make you more intelligent.

You usually drink coffee when you are sleep-deprived, right? Well, that much-needed jolt not only keeps you awake, it makes you sharper. CNN reports that coffee allows your brain to work in a much more efficient and smarter way. TIME reporter, Michael Lemonick, says, “When you’re sleep-deprived and you take caffeine, pretty much anything you measure will improve: reaction time, vigilance, attention, logical reasoning — most of the complex functions you associate with intelligence.” – Huffington Post

Obviously, I think getting sleep is very important, but for those nights when you just didn’t get enough… grab a coffee.

A n t i o x i d a n t s.

Coffee is super-concentrated with antioxidants and is especially high in one group of antioxidant compounds called flavonoids. The flavonoids have garnered considerable scientific interest because of their beneficial effects on human health. In various journal studies they have been reported to possess antioxidant, antiviral, anti-allergic, anti-platelet, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor activities.

Coffee’s antioxidant compounds include caffeic acid, caffeine, the chlorogenic acids, eugenol, gamma-tocopherol, isoeugenol, p-coumaric acid, scopoletin and tannic acid. In fact, coffee is the primary source of beneficial, protective antioxidants in the American diet. Most Americans do not eat enough antioxidant-rich fresh fruits and vegetables, but they do drink coffee. The bottom line? Coffee protects your body. This is a good thing. –

Well, there you have it!  Go out and get yourself some warm goodness today!

Studded Black Noir

It seems as though Spring is approaching rather quickly… but I just can’t seem to give up my black basics and replace them with neon’s and pastels just yet.  I have been on the hunt for some destroyed denim skinny’s, obviously I haven’t found the right pair yet, any recommendations?   Being short with a booty can making finding skinny’s that aren’t extremely too long, or to big in the waist, to be rather difficult.  I spotted these pumps at Forever21 and just couldn’t say no; they seemed like a staple item that I will keep in the collection for a good while.

My city has grow so much; I remember when West Farmington was just fields, now there are homes everywhere… this is one of the areas that hasn’t been touched by neighborhoods full of homes yet!

Simple Sparkle

Screen Shot 2014-02-24 at 8.21.59 PM

First off… please excuse the blurry pictures.  Note to self: camera obviously doesn’t focus very well when it’s on a timer.  Also notice that, yes… I did sneak a lovely phone selfie in there!  Nothing better than photoshoots with me, myself, and I.

Sometimes simple is best.  I didn’t want to pair any other jewelry with this lovely ILY COURTURE necklace.  The necklace is a statement all on its’ own.  I have been wanting a levi button up, since they are all the rage right now, so I finally decided to give in!  These shirts are so versatile, they can be dressed up and dressed down!

As Spring is approaching, seems more quickly than ususal, as Salt Lake City reach 61 degrees yesterday.  Aren’t we still in February?  Well I guess you never know what the weather holds here in lovely Utah, I think we still had skiing in May in years past.  Who else is excited for cutt-offs and tanks?!  However, I did notice just this morning that my legs are quite a lovely shade of “ghostly” white!  Spray tan is in order!

More Protein, More Lean Muscle.

More Protein, More Lean Muscle.

First off.. I hope everyone got out and enjoyed the weekend!  Here in Utah everyone gets so excited when it gets warmer; I just feel happier when the sun is shining on my face and the windows are down in the car!  Utah would be paradise, at least for me, if you completely eliminated the winter season :)!

As summer is approaching, you will see all the “get fit for summer” diets, etc come out of the works.  I am a Diet Nazi; what’s the point of some 21 day fix, just to put you right where you started when you aren’t eating some super low calorie diet, or wasting your day with some outrageous amount of time on the treadmill anymore?  Pointless!  Make changes to your every day life and make it a lifestyle to keep you healthier and fit all life long!

I am not a licensed nutritionist, but most of the people I have helped train and workout with, don’t realize how much protein they need.  Adding more protein is critical if you are trying to build lean muscle and lose fat.

Here is a great article that explains why protein is so important:

Here are some great items to add to your “diet”, and by “diet”, I mean: what you are eating everyday.

Low Fat Cottage Cheese – I love to add fruit to my cottage cheese!

Beef Jerky is always my go to on road trips!

boiled eggs

If you love real lime juice, cut your boiled eggs in half, and drizzle lime juice on top of them… love this!

Trying adding some grapes to your greek yogurt!  I absolutely love the sweet/tart combo!

I probably eat a bag of the 24 pack of string cheese of week.

The light string cheese has more protein than the normal string cheese, who wouldn’t want the light anyways?

Just thought I would give you a glimps at my amazing weekend!  Happy almost Spring!

Thanks for stopping by!

ILY Couture “Wifey” Tee and Luxe Stilettos

I am loving my new Wifey Tee from ILY Couture, I am all about fashionable comfort!  Jeans are even a big stretch for me since I typically prefer workout leggings!  As Spring is approaching I am so excited for open-toe weather, which can be good and bad, as I will have to always remember to keep my toe nails looking presentable 🙂  WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT WITH SPRING APPROACHING?

I am so excited for warm sunny days, laying by the pool, hiking without freezing my buns off, summer tanks and flip flops!  I wasn’t mean’t for colder weather!

Fishnets and Knee High Boots

Screen Shot 2014-02-09 at 11.15.04 PM

Fishnets and Knee High Boots

I am loving my hand-me-down knee high boots, I never dared buy any because I felt like they made my already short legs, look even shorter.  This outfit was inspired by the Superbowl, I’m a tad bit late, sorry.  There is nothing like a pair of fishnet tights to spice up an outfit.  Whenever I feel like spicing up my work attire, a pair of cute fishnets usually does the trick.  I think fishnets are one of those timeless items that will always be around… and cheetah print, that too! I am taking the cheetah print to my grave!

Bold Aztec

Screen Shot 2014-02-09 at 10.39.19 PM

Who doesn’t love a bold blue right now?!  I have to wear a dress to work EVERYDAY… yes, it royally sucks sometimes.  I go from a dress to gym clothes on the daily.  I have to keep my work attire interesting in order to not want to destroy every dress I own!  I found this dress on sale and fell in love with it.  It is super comfortable, yet classy at the same time!  Since this dress is bold enough on its’ own, I paired it with simple bubble bracelet from ILY Couture and a black and white chevron clutch!

Hope you enjoy the look!

Finding Balance

Screen Shot 2014-02-09 at 9.53.44 AM

I am in the process of finding balance between living, being healthy, and being fit.  I am no longer that girl carrying around canned tuna and franks red hot sauce in her purse, that girl setting up camp on the stair-mill, or that girl that fears that too many carbs could possibly cause her roll over and die!  However, I am the girl that may or may not have had some starbursts with breakfast this morning… which is not a regular occurrence; I am definitely not encouraging unhealthy habits.  Sure I am no longer that girl with 8% bodyfat and about 10lbs lighter, but I am a girl that is working on being happy with herself, no matter what the scale says, or what percentage body fat I am.  I made the mistake of letting myself think that once I got down to my goal weight or once I hit that lower number in body fat… that it would make me happy with every part of myself!  The truth is when I was 8% bodyfat and just under 100lbs… I don’t remember once thinking to myself, I am happy!  Letting myself believe that my happiness is based on my outside appearance is still a daily struggle.

I don’t want to encourage being unhealthy, or not going to the gym or working on your fitness, but I do want to encourage finding balance between what is important in life as a whole, rather than the importance of fitting into those smaller jeans.  Spend just as much time working on loving what you have on the inside, as you spend working on what is on the outside.

Find what you love about yourself on the inside before you let the what’s on the outside dictate your happiness!

Warning… let me be honest, I am still apprehensive about these photos, and I am sorry if they offend any of you.  These photos are about acceptance and loving the body you have right now… in this moment!
